THE Professional Footballers' Association this week sent out 3,496 ballot papers to all its members seeking their backing for strike action with the country's top stars poised to impose a blackout on televised football.

The PFA want five per cent of all TV money - the same share they claim they have received since 1955, and a share that amounted to £8.8million last year.

However, under the new £1.65billion TV deal struck by the Premier League, the PFA are set to have their slice cut to just £5.2million - less than one per cent - and £20million down on the figure they would have received under last year's rate.

The Premier League insist the arrangement was scrapped five years ago and insists the union is already massively over-funded amid claims the PFA are sitting on £20million worth of assets.
