IT is regrettable that, having lost his argument at the recent annual general meeting of York Council for Voluntary Service, Reverend Peter Duncan is now trying to discredit the organisation and its trustees through your newspaper. (Letters, October 5).

York CVS has always tried to involve all sections of the community in its work regardless of their religious beliefs. After a great deal of thoughtful discussion, the CVS trustees decided not to include reference to religion in its statement of aims and values because they did not wish to compromise this objective. A letter from the Charity Commission subsequently supported their decision.

For more than 60 years, York CVS has responded effectively to some of the most difficult issues in our community. I believe that we will be judged on this record and not by unkind and unjustified personal remarks in the press.

York CVS continues to use its resources wisely, supporting and promoting a vast range of voluntary activity in the city - visit our website at www.yorkcvs.org.uk or phone 01904 621133 for a copy of our annual report, and see how York CVS puts its values into action for the benefit of the community in York.
