AMATEUR supersleuths are being invited to get into the Hallowe'en spirit when York Castle Museum stages an evening of murder, mystery and mayhem.

Budding Sherlocks will pit their wits against some of the most dastardly villains at a murder mystery evening, in the mock-up Victorian street, Kirkgate.

The event will boast a host of colourful characters, including the ghost of Dick Turpin, and glamorous 1930s film stars, Richie Reel and Felicity Rapture.

Lucy Adlington, of Century Adventures History Group, which will be providing the entertainment for the evening, said: "We're promising a quality, fun experience."

Set in 1936, the action centres on the shooting of a film in the museum. Things go far from smoothly and, as the body count begins to mount, guests will be invited to search for clues and solve the mystery.

Lucy added: "We're asking people to enter into the spirit of the event by dressing up as their favourite detective, historian or clairvoyant.

"It's going to be a fun night, and we promise a few unexpected surprises. There will be prizes for best solution and best costume during the event, suitable for adults and older children.

The event will take place on Saturday, October 27, between 7pm and 9pm. Tickets, at £12.50, are available from the museum.

Numbers are limited to 60.
