York Rugby Union Club's under-8s head to Malton and Norton this Sunday on the trail of a double.

They will be looking for their second successive tournament victory after winning their age group at the Morley Festival last week by the narrowest of margins.

Opening against Old Brodlians, York's combination of last year's hugely successful under-7s squad and a number of new recruits, won 15-5 with tries by Sebastian Murgatroyd (2) and Oliver Snook.

In the second match York played local rivals Pocklington for the second week running after having narrowly beaten them the previous week at the Selby tournament.

Matches between these two teams are always close and this was no exception as York won 25-10 as both sides contributed to a fine match. York tries came from Murgatroyd (2), Snook (2) and Nicholson.

After two matches York headed the pool with Doncaster but their third match was against hosts Morley.

Morley led a disorganised York 5-0 at half-time but a number of substitutions transformed the Clifton Park youngsters with Snook scoring a hat-trick, his last try coming two minutes from time to clinch a 15-10 victory.

The final match of the day was against Doncaster who had secured two wins and a loss in their three games.

A win for York meant a clean sweep and the tournament trophy. However, it wasn't to be as York lost 15-5.

This meant that the final table of five teams had three teams level on points, each having played four and won three.

It was down to the mathematicians and they discovered that Old Brods had the worst points difference and came third. Doncaster and York enjoyed the same points difference but York had scored more tries so were declared the overall winners.
