FIREFIGHTERS from across North Yorkshire were today travelling to London for a memorial service for their counterparts who died in New York's terrorist atrocity.
About 25 firefighters, officers and support staff, led by deputy county fire officer David Wynne, were expected to attend the UK Fire Brigades' Service of Commemoration this afternoon at St Paul's Cathedral.
Travelling by coach, some were due to leave Northallerton at 6am, while many caught the coach later at Acomb fire station.
Spokesman Terry Glover said the firefighters, who included part-timers as well as full time staff, wanted to show solidarity with more than 300 firefighters who lost their lives in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre.
