THE Press has printed various letters about the "infuriating waste of money" being spent on the A64 underpass so the residents of Copmanthorpe have easier access to York (October 22).
J and S Sykes said that this was unnecessary because there already exists a flyover nearby which gives excellent access to the A64 from the village. I would agree, yet £4 million is the estimated cost of this construction and delays to traffic will continue for more than a year.
R Lamb's letter states that 6,000 jobs will be created at Monks Cross, and states we can expect 6,000 more car journeys every day as a result.
Maybe now we have the answer to why £4 million is being spent on the A64. I suggest these 6,000 new jobs will need a good proportion of 6,000 new homes. We hear many new homes are to be built at Fulford. Perhaps the hidden agenda here is that Copmanthorpe and surrounding villages are very shortly to become a developer's dream - green fields and easy access to York.
