THE closure of Paragon Street one way is guaranteed to be the worse decision City of York Council has made in its entire history.
When the road is used normally, ie both ways, during the morning and evening rush hours it is absolutely chock-a-block from Lawrence Street to Skeldergate Bridge in both directions.
As a business driver in the city I ask: please give us a break. Turn off all the traffic lights in the city and let us deal with the running of the roads ourselves. It happens when major junctions lose their lights.
I have seen Lawrence Street, Walmgate and Foss Islands Road so clear in the rush hour you could believe you were on a different planet. This is also the scenario if the lights at Gillygate-Bootham break down.
Give us a chance - turn them off!
