AS a mother and grandmother I have become increasingly concerned about the pollutants that are affecting our health and destroying our planet.
I have read of recent studies which suggest car emissions, traffic noise and congestion are well above acceptable levels in York. Bootham and Gillygate are highlighted as particularly bad.
The council is awash with schemes to address these problems. Only time will tell how successful they will be.
Meanwhile, it would seem that the sole occupation of the city planning department is to build on every available site, including those rare havens of peaceful solitude and tranquillity into which we can escape from the very scourge that is blighting our lives.
The planners can do little about the present traffic and pollution problems. The preservation of our quiet places of tranquillity and recreation is very much their choice.
