HIGHWAYS bosses are now trying to ease the congestion caused by the A64 roadworks. After our call last week to Get York Moving, the belated meeting between the Highways Agency and City Of York Council proved fruitful. Sunday working will be introduced, hopefully allowing the whole dual carriageway to re-open before the two weekends in the run up to Christmas.
Other ways to free up the traffic are being sought. For the sake of York's economy every avenue must be explored. It is a shame and somewhat puzzling, therefore, that round-the-clock working has been ruled out - when such a system has been used to speed up other road schemes.
