YORK City received a massive shot in the arm today with the news hot-shot Michael Proctor's Bootham Crescent stay has been extended until the end of the season.

The on-loan Sunderland starlet, who has become a big hero with the Bootham Crescent faithful, has agreed to extend his three-month loan into an extended season-long deal.

Manager Terry Dolan, who was tying up the loose-ends to the deal with his Sunderland counterpart, Peter Reid, this morning, admitted he was delighted to have secured the six-goal hitman on a longer deal.

"The fact that he wants to stay here is particularly pleasing," said the City chief.

"I think it is a reflection of his understanding with Lee Nogan and the fact he is enjoying himself.

"If he wasn't, he wouldn't want to stay."

Proctor underlined his value to the Minstermen on Saturday with his last-gasp winner against Macclesfield.

And the 21-year-old, now City's top scorer this season, admitted after the game he is enjoying every minute of his time at Bootham Crescent.

"Every time I go out to play I want to score," he said.

"I enjoy playing alongside Lee Nogan and he is creating a lot of chances for us at the minute. He does a lot of running unselfishly and I feel as if I'm going to score in every game."

But despite proving himself a match winner on Saturday against the Silkmen, the 21-year-old was still a relieved man after the game.

Proctor suffered a rare off-day in-front of goal, missing a series of good chances, including a second-half penalty, but with ten seconds left he atoned his errors with a delightful finish.

"The penalty miss doesn't seem that bigger a blow now that we've won, but at the time I was disappointed, he said.

"It is one of those things that you have got to block out of your mind and get on with the game then maybe think about later. You've just got to not let it effect your game and carry on the way you would anyway.

"We said before the game we'd have to keep chasing down as mistakes were likely to be made on such a heavy pitch.

"Luckily enough as I chased back I got the break and I've managed to get the finish."

Proctor's winning goal came after City fans began chanting 'Dolan out'.

"Obviously, the fans are entitled to their own opinions and I heard them start with five minutes to go," he said. "I just tried to get a goal and the win to maybe get the fans off our backs a little bit."
