THE Government must put money into North Yorkshire's roads and rail lines, a new chairman has urged.
Martyn Weller, newly-elected chairman of the Freight Transport Association's Yorkshire and Humberside Council, spoke as experts study ways of tackling road congestion.
It has been suggested that more freight be encouraged onto rail.
"But this is only achievable if we seek the right level of investment in rail infrastructure," Mr Weller said.
The Freight Transport Association is committed to more rail freight.
"However," said Mr Weller, "we must not forget that for some journeys, rail will never be an option, therefore Government must provide an adequate road infrastructure for businesses in Yorkshire and Humberside."
