CITY of York Ladies were unable to break their losing run in the premier division of the North League when they lost 3-1 at Chester.
The home side opened the scoring following a quickly taken free hit but York soon replied when Kate Rorrison, who had a fine game, volleyed in a cross from a long corner.
York then defended well when Chester won a series of penalty corners, only for Chester to regain the lead before half-time with a disputed goal when what seemed a clear infringement led to a long debate between the two umpires before the goal was allowed to stand.
Although York fought hard to get back on terms in the second half, Chester made the game safe with a third goal in a breakaway attack.
A break in the fixture schedules meant that York's three Yorkshire League teams were without games.
Jane Markland scored a hat-trick as Nestl Rowntrees beat Ryedale 5-3 in the York and District Costcutter Hockey league.
Other scorers for the York-based side were Vanessa Moore and Margi Charleston.
