SOCCER star Jonathan Woodgate has been given 100 hours of Community Service after being found guilty of affray - but cleared of causing GBH with intent - during a street attack on a Leeds University student.

Leeds teammate Lee Bowyer was cleared of both GBH with intent and affray by the jury at Hull Crown Court this afternoon.

Woodgate's friend Paul Clifford was found guilty of causing GBH and affray and sentenced to six years in prison.

Another friend Neale Caveney who was found guilty of affray - but cleared of causing GBH also received 100 hours Community Service.

Fan Shaun Collinge, who is landlord of The Maltings Pub, in Tanners Moat, and represents Leeds on TV's Premiership Panel, said: "It is good for Leeds that this affair has finally been sorted out. It has interrupted the day-to-day running of the club.

"To be quite honest, looking at what Lee Bowyer was charged with, I didn't feel he did anything. Obviously, I am extremely pleased for him. Now he can concentrate on his career.

"I don't fear for the career of Jonathan Woodgate following this conviction. He's worth £10 million and the club is not going to bin that.

"It may depend on the severity of his sentence but I can't see Leeds sacking him."
