THE funny letter from Ann Church about the 'Mickleg' Christmas sign in lights (December 18) prompts me to regret the re-naming of the Punch Bowl pub on Haxby Road as the Independent, which you also reported recently.
I used to live nearby and watched with interest as odd letters fell off and were replaced. My favourite versions were The Punc Bowl, and the worrying The Punch Owl.
