A FURIOUS York tenant is still waiting for his house wall to be fixed - more than six months after council contractors damaged it.

Julian Morley said his council house in Lindsay Avenue, Acomb, had been cold and draughty following the damage to his outside wall tiles. Council contractors had been upgrading his windows to double glazing when the tiles were accidentally broken. But despite repeated phone calls to the council offices since June, Mr Morley, 37, who works as a barman, is still waiting for them to be repaired, and has branded the authority "inexcusably sloppy".

He told the Evening Press: "It's ridiculous.

"Our house has been freezing for months and I've had to have my heating on full blast constantly which has cost me a fortune."

Mr Morley, who lives with his partner Michelle Yates, said he has been unable to move his three-year-old son Nathaniel into his own room because of the draught.

"I've been fobbed off so many times. I've heard all manner of excuses.

"It only amounts to about ten minutes worth of work - what a farce."

A spokeswoman for City of York Council admitted they were at fault.

She said: "During the replacement of some windows at the house in Lindsay Avenue, some external hanging tiles were broken.

"Due to an error in our procedures, this repair job was not raised as quickly as it should have been and we apologise to Mr Morley for the delay.

"The repair was due to be carried out before Christmas. However, the supplier did not have the tiles in stock. These are due to arrive after Christmas and as soon as they do, the council will repair them, which should be the first week in January."
