As the big freeze continues to cause havoc to jump racing, punters can at least look forward to a double-helping of Flat action tomorrow.

The all-weather menu embraces a monster-sized card at Southwell, which has been switched from Wolverhampton, and a further programme at Lingfield, which features the £20,000 Littlewoods Bet Direct Handicap.

The day's richest race could well be snapped-up by former Norton jockey Jimmy Quinn, who will be aboard my Nap selection Whaleef, trained by Ed Dunlop at Newmarket.

Two wins from three starts is Whaleef's record to date and there was much to like, too, about the standard of his effort in his only defeat.

On this course last time out, the four-year-old ran a cracker to finish third to Compton Bolter in a Listed race.

Considering his lack of experience, that was a fine performance and one which suggested that Whaleef was one to keep on the right side.

Quinn, going all out to clinch the all-weather jockeys' championship, looks certain to enjoy a good ride tomorrow on Whaleef over a course and distance where this useful performer has scored in the past.

Euro Venture is worth noting in the betdirect.co.uk Classified Stakes over six furlongs.

The seven-year-old, trained by Heather Walton, scored in convincing style at Wolverhampton three weeks ago and appears to be in excellent heart at present. It would not surprise me to see this old campaigner score again tomorrow.

Physical Force has been running consistently well in defeat on the sand and deserves another chance to get his head in front in division two of the Call Bet Direct Amateur Riders' Handicap.

The four-year-old will receive every assistance from Tom Best, who is particularly effective in these sort of races.

At Southwell, I expect Mark Johnston to keep his flag flying. The Middleham trainer sent out a winner yesterday at Lingfield and Xellance, a smart stayer on turf and sand, has excellent prospects of adding to his winter tally in the two-miles Bet Direct Handicap.

Patrick Haslam, a neighbour of Johnston's, also has a fine opportunity of getting on the Southwell scoreboard.

Haslam saddles It Was Meant To Be in the Littlewoods Bet Direct Handicap and this in-form gelding has a cracking chance of gaining his fourth win from five starts. Apprentice Lee Enstone has the mount.

Haslam can also win the seven furlongs maiden stakes with Soldier Point, who has shown enough in previous outings to suggest that a race of this nature is within his compass.

- All tomorrow's scheduled National Hunt race meetings (at Sandown, Haydock, Uttoxeter and Musselburgh) have been abandoned because of heavy frost.
