APPLYING feng shui, the ancient art of positioning furniture to create a more harmonious flow of chi, or energy, helped to boost turnover at the Healing Clinic in York tenfold. That is the claim of June Tranmer, founder-proprietor the natural health centre in Fulford Cross, in her submission for the Evening Press Business Of The Year Awards.

June, who began the venture as a complementary clinic, with one fellow acupuncturist, with whom she shared a treatment room and waiting room, now runs a huge six-day-a-week operation with a 500 sq ft reception area, four treatment rooms and 16 practitioners offering 17 different therapies and dealing with about 80 patients a week.

Originally turnover was less than £10,000 a year, but after investments and advice from feng shui specialist Carole Chui collective turnover for all the clinicians soared to about £100,000 a year.

June, whose venture celebrated its tenth birthday in April, was a finalist in the 1996 Evening Press Business Awards. This time she is pitching to win the Small Business and Growth Business Of The Year categories.
