YORK regained top spot in the National Top Ten tournament as they beat the leaders Metrodome by 105-56 and picked up the maximum 15 points.

Playing away, Paul Mooring had a 21-9 victory in the singles, while David Stroughair, Dave Hewick, Graham Instone and Frank Turner scored a six on the second end to lead 6-2 on their way to a 28-14 win.

At home, Iain and Ted Boyle scored a six, two and a five to win the pairs 33-18, while Stuart Bryan, Michael Bruce and Dudley Williams turned a 10-4 deficit into a 15-10 lead in successive ends as they won their triples game 23-15.

York, who have dropped only three points in their group, need only 22 points from their remaining two games to guarantee a place in the finals at Darlington at Easter.

New Earswick gained their second win in succession in the National Top Ten competition with an 86-71 victory against Selby. New Earswick picked up nine points for their success.

At home, John Snowden and Dave Birch scored a seven and dropped only five ends on the way to winning 37-8, while Bill Waldie, Barry Harrison and Joe Cooper won 18-13 win in the triples.

At Selby, Ray Clark, Kevin Fort, Mick Stannard and Harry Rhodes lost 29-14 in the fours and Ken Lippett lost a tough singles battle 21-17.

Meanwhile, York nearly achieved a whitewash in both their Yorkshire League and Hebden Trophy fixtures against Ryedale last weekend, winning seven rinks and drawing one.

York took the maximum 12 points at stake in winning the county league match 108-84 and 11 points from a clean sweep 119-56 victory in the trophy match.

Playing at Ryedale in the Yorkshire League match, York's Iain Boyle, Michael Bruce, Ted Boyle and Frank Turner were 12-10 after 12 ends, but a seven on the next end put them ahead and they went on to win 26-21.

In the other away game, Dave Hewick, Barry Walker, John Walker and Graham Instone were 20-7 down with eight ends to play and then won all but two of the remaining ends to win 25-22.

At home, John Emmerson, Mal Harrison, Phil Parsons and Doug Mitchell were trailing 16-5 after 11 ends but scored 16 shots over the next six ends on their way to a 26-20 win.

In the other home game, Paul Mooring, Graham Brooke, Dave McCowan and Russ Barton led 10-1 after five ends and they scored a six on the twelfth end on the way to winning 31-21.

In the Hebden Trophy match, York's Fred Clayden, Peter Littlewood, Geoff Oglesby and Ken Patterson scored a seven on the first end and a six on the 18th followed by a four on each of the remaining ends on their way winning 43-12 .

Dennis Haw, Alwyn Johnson, Dave Clayton and Norman Vause led 15-4 after ten ends and did not allow their opponents to score after the 15th end, when the score was 18-9, and went on to win 29-9.

In the away games Eric Hodgson, Malcolm Thompson, Mike Pearce and Dave Dale won 27-15 despite not scoring in the last five ends, while Brian Thomas, Alwyn Redhead, Tony Bryan and Ken Hutson scored a two on the final end to finish 20-20 after they had led 17-9 after 13 ends.
