York and New Earswick ensured they will play each other in the final of the Hebden Trophy with both clubs winning their games.

York posted a 120-71 win, picking up 11 points against Hornsea. At home Fred Clayden, Peter Littlewood, Mike Pearce and Ken Patterson pulled away at the tenth end to finish 31-13 winners, while Dennis Haw, Alwyn John, Liam Cahill and Norman Vause won 29-26.

At Hornsea Brian Thomas, Alwyn Redhead, Tony Bryan and Ken Hutson were in fantastic form as they only lost six ends in their 38-9 victory. In the other rink Eric Hodgson, Mal Thompson, Philip Scott and Dave Dale were well placed after scoring a six on the 12th end to lead 21-6. But they lost all but one end and the game 23-22.

York earned their place in the final of a trophy they won for the first six years with still one game to play.

New Earswick reached the final for the third year running with a 71-67 win against Thornaby picking up eight points from the game.

At home Eric Ward, Dave Sykes, Robert Domville and David Pearson turned a 15-6 deficit after ten ends into a 20-15 lead. They nearly let it slip as they went into the penultimate end trailing 21-20 but a three took the pressure off.

In the other rink Ken Carter, Barry Harrison, Alf Lewis and Brian Hardcastle were in full control throughout for a good 20-14 win.

At Thornaby Ken Plowman, Bob Howland, Alistair Domville and Ken Robinson were in a good position leading 13-10 with two ends to play but then dropped a two on each of the remaining ends to lose 14-13.

Malcolm Beavers, Ron Wood, Graham Lockwood and Alistair Sugden trailed by four at 17-13 and lost 17-15.

The final is to be played at North Cave IBC on March 24 (1pm).
