MOTORSPORT tycoon John Batchelor is in pole position in the race to buy York City, as the club's Supporters' Trust backed his bid today.

The fans' organisation has opted to support Mr Batchelor rather than rival bidders John Stabler and Russell Greenfield.

The news came as York MP Hugh Bayley was seeking a meeting with Football Association chief executive Adam Crozier to discuss the controversial sale of the club.

More than 3,000 signatures have been collected on a petition that will be presented by City fans at the FA's headquarters in Soho on Saturday.
