TWO-GOAL Richard Jenkin snatched a late point for City of York II in their Northern Hockey League division two east match at Gateshead.

The visitors were trailing 2-1 when Roz Ramli forced a short corner in the dying minutes. The ball was put out to Nick Cook. His strike to the far post was met by Jenkin, who dived to deflect the ball in.

Gateshead, third in the league, had made the early running with Ashley Watson in York's goal making two good saves in the opening quarter.

Gateshead broke the stalemate with a goal but York responded with a bout of pressure which brought a goal when Cook made progress down the right and won a free hit. He smashed it across the face of goal for Jenkin to coolly plant it in Gateshead's net.

York certainly deserved their lead but were rocked when Steve Prankett's tackle was surprisingly adjudged to have been unfair and Gateshead took the lead from the subsequent short corner.

However, York finished strongly and grabbed a deserved share of the spoils with Jenkin's late goal.

It was one-way traffic when City of York III thumped the club's fourth team 7-0 in Yorkshire league division four.

Earlier in the season the sides had drawn but there was no mistake this time as York's III edged closer to the promotion zone while IV are second to bottom and facing the drop.

James Flint opened the scoring after ten minutes with further goals from Ian Butler, Adam Jackson and Jason Bemrose before half-time. Flint, Jackson and Matt Todd added to the tally goals after the interval.

City of York V pulled off a great 2-1 victory over division six leaders Dinnington to ease their lowly position.

Mark Dransfield's shot from an acute angle put York in front only for Dinnington to level five minutes later.

The game became heated in the second half and the South Yorkshire visitors threw everything at York but were defied and Nick Fitton stole victory, much against the run of play, with the last hit of the game.

City of York VI matched Hull YPI II territorially, but were undone by the East Yorkshire side's sharpness in front of goal.

York's cause was not helped after the break when 'keeper Mark Burn had to go off injured.

A penalty stroke was awarded after an infringement by a York player and a Hull player then struck the ball after the whistle. The ball hit Burn on the elbow but he had to remain on the pitch to face the penalty from which Hull scored to go 5-0 up.

Burn then handed over to Nathan Sorby and Hull completed a 9-1 win. York's consolation came when a hit by Clive Mills-Hicks was flicked home by Tom Sorby.

Two goals by Neil Reader gave City of York VII a 2-2 draw at Tadcaster II in division eight. York, for whom Damian Greig and Graham McFaul were outstanding, led 2-0 but Tadcaster centre forward Rob Hill pulled a goal back and 15-year-old substitute David Holmes netted the equaliser with a fine push-shot at the start of the second half.

An experienced Rotherham VI beat City of York VIII, whose Matthew Longster, Richard Cockram and Wayne Stephens did well, 5-2.

York were kept in the game with goals from Doug Thompson and Andy Dent.

City of York I's Northern Hockey League game at Manchester Met was hit by the wintry blast.

A snow-bound pitch forced the game to be abandoned. It will be played later this season.

Tadcaster I's game was also called off because of the weather.
