Tadcaster Grammar School duo Nicola Lampard and Lauren Mason produced two great performances in the finals of the British Schools Biathlon Championships at Rugby, Leicestershire.

Both year nine girls live in Copmanthorpe, train at Nestl Rowntree Athletics Club and sparkled in the 800m run and 40m swim.

Lampard brought home the bronze medal after amassing 2,298 points from her run of 2 mins 30.56 sec and a swim of 31.95secs.

Mason completed her run in 2:40.65 and clocked 30.25secs in her swim for a total of 2,275 points and seventh place overall.

Lampard has also recently qualified for the English Schools Cross Country Championships which will be held at Chelmsford, Essex, on March 9.

She is one of the top 100m athletes in the region and has been selected by the eastern Region Athletics Coaching Committee to take part in two coaching and performance squads at Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield.

Other York area qualifiers for Chelmsford include: Joel Riley, Aimee Collett, Nina Batt (Tadcaster), David McQuarrie (Sherburn), Philip Graves (Archbishop's), Nina Griffith (Millthorpe), Sussanna Dale (Fulford), Emily Watts (Easingwold), Lara Gibbs (St Peter's), Karen Espiner (Sherburn), Liz Hodgkinson (Queen Margaret's), Ruth Tinsley (Selby High School) and Emma Macalister-Hall (St Olave's).

FOOTBALL

York City Boys under 11s were beaten 2-1 at Hull in the Yorkshire Cup. Joe Lister netted York's goal with a great shot from 30 yards.

The Under 11s next game will be at Wakefield on Saturday, March 9.

On Saturday, March 2, the City Boys Under 14s are at Barnsley.

The same squad will play in the Yorkshire Cup quarter final against Scarborough.
