A COUPLE are celebrating after scooping more than £1.5 million on the National Lottery.

Colin and Jackie Darbyshire, of Sherburn-in-Elmet, hit the jackpot and then announced they were quitting their jobs to enjoy the good life.

Father-of-two Colin, 50, has already handed in his notice at the removal firm where he worked as an operations manager.

His wife, Jackie, 44, a receptionist at a doctors' surgery in Sherburn-in-Elmet, said she intended to work her notice to give the surgery time to find a replacement.

The couple discovered they had won Saturday's National Lottery draw during a family get-together at the home of Jackie's mother.

The couple live in a council house in Springfield Road, and top of their shopping list is a new home of their own.

A Mitsubishi Shogun and a dream tour of Canada in a motor home are also high on the list.

The demands of their son' Robert, 18, and daughter Elizabeth, 15, were a little more modest.

Robert has asked for a mini disc player for his car, while Elizabeth wants a mobile phone.

The lucky numbers - which they have never changed since the lottery started - were 8, 11, 25, 33, 37, 43 plus the bonus number 30.

Jackie said: "It took several seconds for it to register that we had matched all six numbers. My mother's house was full with all our family. There was pandemonium when we told everyone we had won."
