Scarborough's well deserved 2-1 win at Hayes on Saturday was their second in five days against a team in the basement of the Nationwide Conference.

Player-coach Mark Patterson, who missed the game through suspension, said, "it was a bitty and scrappy game, but Karl Rose scored two superb goals and I think we should have had more.

"Safety is now in our hands and realistically we have to win another three games out of the nine we have left and if we do that, there should be a least three teams below us."

The good news for Boro is that Hayes look doomed and offered little apart from the high ball and chase tactics.

Boro layed some decent football on a bobbly pitch, with the game not being helped by referee Keith Stroud's unwillingness to play any sort of advantage.

Rose scored his two goals in the first half with clinical finishes and although Hayes had a lifeline when Anthony Charles headed home just after the break, there were few home efforts on target.

At the other end, Darryn Stamp saw an effort cleared off the line, shot wide from six yards and headed straight at the 'keeper from close range.

Ryan Sugden nearly opened his account with a shot which beat 'keeper John Granville but hit Jason Blunt on the line.
