ANY city usually gets the services it deserves. With the number of attacks on evening buses escalating, (March 18), I now believe York does not deserve any kind of evening bus services at all, anywhere.

I believe this for two reasons:

- The safety of bus-drivers and passengers is being repeatedly put in danger;

- First simply cannot afford to be constantly repairing buses that have been maliciously damaged.

There is no reason why First should be replacing damaged buses just so they can be vandalised all over again.

And there's no way anybody should be expected to have to work under such stressful conditions.

Withdrawing all evening services will stop York's fastest growing "sport". It's the only answer.

Before anyone says: "I bet he's OK. He'll have car." I haven't. I use the buses too.

...YOUR headline 'Shotgun blasted at bus driver' (March 18) comes as no surprise when with apparent ease one can buy troublesome airguns quite legally over the counter in certain York shops.

These bus outrages are now happening with sickening regularity, yet I am surprised there has been no response from our city MP, Hugh Bayley.

What does it take for some action to be taken - a person to be killed or maimed?
