HOME fires burned brightest and at the the double in the York and District Schools' netball Under-12 'A' and 'B' tournaments.

Hosts Joseph Rowntree School won both events, with the B ranks winning the most emphatically.

They won six games, also drawing with St Olave's, in the initial round-robin format before meeting Queen Margaret's for the title.

Joseph Rowntree started nervously after being beaten convincingly by Queen Margaret's earlier in the season. However the tables were turned when Joseph Rowntree scored with confidence to triumph 5-2.

The winning U12 'B' squad was: Danielle Hughes (capt), Serena Sawdon-Holland, Bethany Rankin, Rebecca Jacques, Hayley Fairclough, Emily Shaw, Sophie Rowarth, Tabitha Warley.

In the 'A' tournament Joseph Rowntree took an early lead after beating All Saints 5-2, Queen Margaret's 3-1, Millthorpe 7-3 and The Mount 7-1.

A tough match with St Olave's ended even at draw 2-2 meaning that Joseph Rowntree had to beat Huntington in the last match to win the trophy.

Accurate shooting from Jenny Murdoch and Emily Mantle paved the way for a 5-0 conquest for the Jo Ro A outfit, which comprised Rachel Hawkhead (capt), Emily Mantle, Jenny Murdock, Katrina Woodcock, Catherine Fowler, Sarah Corbett, Bethany Sissons.

FOOTBALL

DUE to postponed matches because of the shocking weather and the advent of the Easter holidays, the Primary Schools' season will be extended to April 20.

The Primary leagues will be decided on results received by 9pm on Saturday, April 20. The six league winners will play off in a league tournament to decide the overall champions on Saturday, April 27, 2002.

The limit date for the playing of Secondary league games has now passed and no further results will be accepted. The current Secondary league tables are the final ones of the season.

League winners are - U13: Tadcaster.

U14 League: All Saints.

U15 League: Canon Lee and All Saints tied on 17 points, forcing a play-off, likely after Easter.

U12 league play-offs: Manor 3, Archbishop's 2; Fulford 6, Oaklands 3. Manor and Fulford will meet in the U12 final after Easter.

The U16 league semi-finals: Fulford v Barlby and Manor v Huntington.

Outstanding cup games must be played this week so that finals can be played after the Easter holidays.
