FARMING students from Askham Bryan College tested their strength and pulled a tractor ten miles around the Eye of York to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief.

Fifty students split up into five teams yesterday.

The teams took it in turns to drag the bright-red tractor for a staggering total of five hours.

A big crowd and the Rowntree's Brass Band spurred them on - and they managed to stay the course!

The sponsored tractor pull was organised by seven Millennium Volunteers (MV) studying agriculture at the college. York MV is all about giving young people the opportunity to develop skills such as team working and project management while giving something to the community at the same time.

The money will all go to the charity's Miles Challenge.

Alex Ermsley, York appeal co-ordinator for Macmillan Cancer Relief, said: "It's all about getting sponsorship for undertaking a mile of anything you like.

"Askham Bryan students have undoubtedly taken these words to heart."
