THERE was a dramatic end to the division three promotion race.

In mid-week Elvington Harriers dropped two points to lowly Rawcliffe Rangers. Dale Phillips put Rangers ahead in the first half and Jon Rogerson equalised for Harriers but the point was not enough to take them into second.

This set things up for Wilberfoss, playing on Saturday at bottom club Marton cum Grafton, to take the points they needed to jump above Poppleton and Elvington into second place.

Things were going according to plan and with 15 minutes to go they were leading 2-0 with goals from Sean Hodgson and Jon Parkin but then Marton's John Watson upset the form book with a dramatic hat-trick to condemn Wilberfoss to fourth place. Poppleton take second place, a position they did not expect only one week ago.

Les Falkingham scored the only goal of the game which gave Pocklington a mid-week win over Reserve A champions, Dringhouses and they followed this up with a 3- 1 victory at St Johns College at the weekend.

Nick Daniels, Tim Furnell and Dave O'Connor were their scorers against the Students who replied through Leon Wormley.

Richard Singh, Andy Burton (2) and Wayne Coulthard gave Kartiers a 4-0 win over South Bank.

Wigginton Grasshoppers and Dunnington shared the points in a 1-1 draw. Rob Murphy netted for Grasshoppers and Paul Fowler claimed the Dunnington goal.

The same player spurned the chance to give Dunnington the win when he missed an open goal five minutes from time.

New Earswick and Old Malton finished honours even when they played out two 1-1 draws and Bishopthorpe ran in eight against Haxby with Paul Broadbent top if the list with four, Greg Fitzmaurice hit two with Jack Boston and Graham Wigley taking one apiece.

The game marked the retirement of Bishopthorpe stalwart Graham Roupee who vowed to keep playing until his 50th birthday and he has reached that milestone.

Reserve B champions Malton Bacon factory missed a hat-full of chances at Haxby & Wigginton and went down to the only goal of the game scored by Guy Hunt ten minutes from time.

Chris May and Alex Simpson gave Riccall a 2- 0 win over relegated Nestl Rowntree to end their season in third place.
