ONE motorcyclist died and another was seriously injured when the training convoy they were taking part in collided with a car.
The three bikers were travelling in single file along the A166 York to Stamford Bridge Road, police said.
But half a mile from the Dunnington turn off, the lead biker lost control on a left hand bend and hit a Citroen Picasso travelling towards York.
Sergeant Andrew Farrar said: "The impact caused the Citroen to travel out of control towards the opposite carriageway, striking the second of the three motorbikes.
"Both riders were thrown from their machines. The rider of the second bike received fatal injuries, the first biker sustained serious injuries."
The Citroen's driver and passenger, and the third biker, escaped without injury, Sgt Farrer said.
The dead man has not yet been named but is believed to be from Filey, near Scarborough. The people in the car are from Bingley, West Yorkshire.
The accident happened at about 6.30pm yesterday.
Any witnesses are asked to ring the police on 01904 631321.
