BRIDLINGTON crashed to their heaviest defeat since joining the York League when they were beaten by ten wickets after being whipped out for only 47 at Tadcaster Magnet in division two.

Tormenter-in-chief Paul Downey captured 7 for 25 for Taddy while P Clark bagged 3 for 20.

Richard Cattle (23no) and Mick Ransome (21) then quickly knocked off the required runs.

League debutantes Studley Royal got off to a flying start when they beat Castleford by 50 runs.

Mark Sowray top scored with 77 while other regal runs came from Jarrod Oliver (31) and Rob Mackle (40).

Craig Piggott had a good game for the losers in taking 4 for 47 and then making 25 while team-mate Phil Gearing hit 43 but Studley were able to start off with a win as 16-year-old paceman James Bryon took 4 for 32, and Adrian Caines took 4 for 50

At St George's Road, home batsman Rupert Scales made 101 not out as Harrogate bagged maximum batting points from their draw against Bubwith.

John Strover made 57 and 39 from Chris Kippax helped Harrogate to 217 for 2.

J Sutton hit 53 for Bubwith but his side was never in the hunt as off-spinner Kippax completed a satisfactory day by taking 4 for 66 and M Mehta took 3 for 32 to limit the visitors to 157 for 8.

Malton's recruit from Pickering, Matt Yates bowled his side to the brink of victory over rivals Scarborough but the Seasiders' final pair were able to survive for three overs to gain a draw.

Australian Ben Nicholson made 114 and Neil Johnson 46 as Malton reached 205 for 8. Scarborough's reply centred around Mark Welford who made 54 out of their 105 for 9.

After a first season of considerable success which saw them only lose one game as they claimed the third division title, Hornsea found the step up a bridge too far at Stamford where they suffered a four-wicket defeat despite making 220 for 7.

Hornsea's South African Doug Griebenhouw started his year with 118 while Rob Webster added 34.

Former Osbaldwick star Stuart Boyle showed his value for Stamford Bridge by taking 4 for 74 and then chipping in with a valuable 29.

Bridge have also been boosted by the recruitment of the now defunct Burythorpe club and two of these supplied most of the runs. Andy Milner made 69 and Steve Towse 36 before Graham Tipping took his side to their target with an unbeaten 26.

It is believed that a Wilberfoss player performed the first hat-trick of the season as the Villagers trounced Clifton Alliance II by 95 runs.

Wilberfoss made 201 for 3 while Clifton were dismissed for 106. Unfortunately the phoned information to the league secretary could not be transcribed.
