A FAMILIAR television face has joined the cast of the musical Fame at York's Grand Opera House.

Yorkshire Television Calendar news presenter Nicola Crompton has exchanged life on the box for treading the boards at the historic York venue.

Nicola grew up in the 1980s when the television show Fame was hugely popular and took regular dance classes in ballet, modern and tap until she was 16.

As an entertainment presenter, Nicola often gets to see productions, and she said it would be great to experience a show from the stage.

She said: "I am excited about being part of the production and working with such a professional team."

Fame is playing at the Grand Opera House, York, until Saturday.
