Barlby High Under-16s football team ended a three-year wait to final win the York and District Schools' Cup.

Having drawn in the final as Under-14s and lost as Under-15s, the boys finally got their hands on the trophy with a 1-0 win over Manor School.

Andrew Leech scored the only goal of the game, which saw both sides determined to take the title.

Barlby, whose skipper Jason Roughley has signed trainee forms for Scunthorpe, defended stoutly to ensure they added the cup to the Selby and District five-a-side crown they won last month.

There was consolation for Manor as their Under-14s lifted the Wilf Meek Cup with a 3-2 victory over Sherburn.

An own goal gave Manor the lead before Sherburn equalised. Stephen Sacks regained the lead for Manor before half-time only for Sherburn to equalise ten minutes later.

With three minutes remaining Manor's winner came from Jack Clayton.

Sherburn hit the winning note in the Under-15s competition, beating Brayton 4-3.

Brayton's goals came from Jack Hawe, Daniel Fisk and Steven Lyons.

But Sherburn were unable to make it a double when they were sunk 5-0 by Tadcaster in the Under 13 final.

Fulford overcame Barlby 2-0 in the Under 12 final. After a goal-less first half, Adam Jones fired Fulford ahead after a succession of shots were blocked.

Fives minutes later, Jones turned creator, passing to striker Scott Nichols who shot home.
