POLICE are hunting a man who tried to snatch an eight-year-old girl as she played in a York street.
The child had been playing on her bicycle in Nunthorpe Grove, South Bank, when she was approached by the man.
Police said he grabbed her and tried to pull her away, but the girl screamed and the man ran off.
He was described as white, tall and thin with brown eyes. He had "a hairy upper lip" and had "earplugs" in his ears. He was wearing a red fleece jacket.
The incident happened early on Tuesday evening.
Police said this afternoon a man was helping them with their inquiries.
