THIRTEEN schools in York are to have building and improvement work carried out using £1.7 million of Government cash.
The money, allocated to City of York Council through two funds, for condition improvements and modernisation work, will be used during the present financial year.
Councillors are due to approve the plans on Tuesday.
Archbishop Holgate's CE School in York will have £412,275 spent on it, to pay for re-roofing block B1, replacing glazing with curtain walling, upgrading the fire alarm and replacing two coal-fired boilers with new gas boilers. There will be £282,000-worth of work at Joseph Rowntree School at New Earswick, comprising a two-classroom extension to replace two temporary classrooms, new sixth-form accommodation and the refurbishment of science labs. Dunnington Primary School will get a two-classroom extension, to replace two temporary classrooms, costing £152,000.
Other schools to have money allocated include: Archbishop of York's CE Junior in Bishopthorpe, Fishergate, Fulford, Haxby Road, Huntington Primary, Huntington, Knavesmire, Millthorpe, Scarcroft and Westfield, Acomb.
