YORKSHIRE today tried to expunge from their minds yesterday's shock defeat by Leicestershire in the Benson and Hedges Cup as they aimed to make amends by beating Durham at Riverside.

A win over Leicestershire would have left them top of their group but now they need to overcome Durham to get back on track for qualifying for the quarter final stages of the competition.

And while Yorkshire were visibly shaken by yesterday's unexpected reverse, Durham were cock-a-hoop after seeing off Lancashire and boosting their own chances of reaching the last eight.

The big plus to come out of the Leicestershire match for Yorkshire was the all-round form of Craig White in only his second match since returning from a groin strain which he sustained on England's winter tour of New Zealand.

Although White was not chosen for any of the three Tests against the Kiwis and later lost his central contract he showed England that they cannot afford to discard him from their plans.

He bowled well to take one for 44 from his nine overs and he placed the ball comfortably to all parts of the field in his best B&H score of 93, beating the 57 not out he scored against Nottinghamshire at Headingley in 1996.

Whatever happens today, Yorkshire will be hoping that Darren Gough and Matthew Hoggard can join the team for Saturday's match at Derby, but the fact remains that it was the batsmen and not the bowlers who threw it away yesterday.

Durham's Michael Gough, who hit an impressive unbeaten 32 against Lancashire yesterday, was rated doubtful to take on Yorkshire today as he aggravated a foot injury.
