A YORK man spoke today of his brutal treatment at the hands of James Littlewood - and his delight that the "evil" man had finally been jailed.

The man, who was a resident at St Camillus Roman Catholic Community Home School, near Tadcaster, in the 1970s, said: "He was an immensely nasty person, who took great delight in administering physical and mental torture.

"Some got it worse than others. If he targeted you, he really targeted you."

When told by the Evening Press that Littlewood had been convicted and jailed for 13 years, he said: "Wow! I actually feel happy."

The man, who does not wish to be identified at this stage, claimed that he had been physically and sexually assaulted by Littlewood.

He said that after one assault, he had run all the way to York police station to complain at what had happened - only to be taken straight back to the home.

"When I got back, I got the battering of my life from him. He was supposed to have a duty of care. I only ended up there because I had been in care since I was a baby - I was put in care because my parents were poor and couldn't afford to keep me.

"You are talking about vulnerable young kids here. We weren't in a position to defend ourselves against him."

He believed the physical and sexual abuse by Littlewood were connected, in that they had both been used to impose total control on residents' behaviour.
