Rush hour rail services from York were disrupted when a false fire alarm forced the evacuation of the city's station.
The alarm was activated in two areas of the station just before 5.10pm yesterday.
The entire station was evacuated for about 20 minutes while firefighters inspected the area and declared the site safe.
Trains waiting to enter the station were either diverted away from York or halted until the all clear was given.
Mike Staff, station business manager, said: "Disruption to train services has been minimal and we hope passengers have been inconvenienced as little as possible."
