JUDGES have praised Evening Press chief photographer Garry Atkinson and our website at a ceremony honouring the cream of northern journalism.
Garry and the This is York website were highly commended at the BT Northern Regional Media awards held at York Racecourse yesterday.
It was the latest of a number of plaudits won by both.
Garry, who is currently Newsquest Photographer Of The Year and Yorkshire Sports Photographer Of The Year, entered pictures, including Tony and Cherie Blair's visit to York's Jorvik Viking Centre last year.
He said: "These awards recognised some of the north's finest journalists, and I was delighted to have been in such exalted company."
This Is York is currently Newsquest Website Of The Year.
News Services Editor John Henry said: "Despite stiff competition, the judges recognised our focus on local issues and our presentation of them in an innovative and vibrant style."
