Queen's Logic, who displayed her vast talents on Knavesmire last August when winning the Lowther Stakes, can reign supreme in tomorrow's Sagitta 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket.

The star filly, who bids to provide jockey Steve Drowne and her trainer, former England International footballer Mick Channon, with their first Classic winners, is a worthy favourite on the strength of her unbeaten record.

A brilliant juvenile last season, when her wins included a wide-margin victory in the Cheveley Park Stakes, Queen's Logic began this term on a winning note at Newbury a couple of weeks ago, gaining a comfortable success in a race she was perfectly entitled to win on form.

Gossamer, who went through last season unbeaten in three races, ranks as a major danger to Queen's Logic.

Although she lacks the benefit of a preparatory outing, Luca Cumani's three-year-old has apparently thrived in her recent homework and she promises to give Jamie Spencer a fine ride.

Misterah, a good winner of the Nell Gwyn Stakes, and Alasha, a strong-finishing fourth in that race, are also worthy of consideration, along with Maryinsky, who is expected to prove the pick of Aidan O'Brien's runners, and is the mount of Kieren Fallon.

But I expect Queen's Logic to hold all the aces in this fascinating first fillies' Classic race of 2002.

Half Glance by-passes the Guineas in favour of tackling the R.L.Davison Pretty Polly Stakes.

The step up to ten furlongs should suit Henry Cecil's smart three-year-old, winner of last year's Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster.

Richard Quinn has the mount.

Seven No Trumps is a high-class sprinter on his day and Barry Hills' charge merits plenty of respect in the Curtis Medical Rated Handicap, which opens tomorrow's Newmarket programme.

The five-year-old scored on his seasonal reappearance at Doncaster and has every chance of doubling-up, despite top weight, in this £30,000 contest.

Also worthy of note at HQ are the well-regarded Plymsole (2.30) and the Godolphin newcomer On Edge (5.20), who is reputed to be a star in the making.

At Hamilton, more than 100 runners will ensure that racegoers are well catered for, even if winners may be that much harder to find.

Tim Easterby can get punters off to a good start, courtesy of Dazzling Bay in the Saab Maiden Stakes.

Robert Winston's mount made a bright start to his career when finishing second at Newcastle on his debut. With that experience under his belt, he should now be able to go one better.

Prix Star goes well on this track and, despite top-weight, should make a bold bid in the Intellibet David Cooper Memorial Handicap over six furlongs.

David Nicholls has his horses in cracking form and the North Yorkshire trainer can land a Hamilton double with Locombe Hill (3.20) and Hormuz (4.30).

The forecast soft ground should suit proven mud-lover Quitte La France, who is my Nap choice to triumph in the Tote betXpress Handicap.
