I AGREE with most of your leader on the Boundary Commission's proposed changes (May 15). The removal of the Vale of York constituency is totally correct as it never made any sense geographically or on a community identity basis.

Even its MP said that it is "largely James Herriot country"! This must be news to the residents of Haxby and Wigginton and perhaps says something about how their MP identifies with them, or doesn't.

Boundary reviews are always a botched job or an unsatisfactory compromise as this is the nature of the way in which they have to be conducted. The people it affects are the electorate. They should take their opportunity to comment on the proposals.

We all know what all the political parties are calculating - can we win or lose the new seats? This is clear from the feature published next to your leader.

Little mention there of the voters, except that the Boundary Commission patronisingly says that the voters in the current York constituency might be "caused too much disruption" with any other solution.

What price the proposed Outer (York) County Constituency being dubbed the Polo? Quite appropriate.
