Poppleton, champions in 2000, had a big win over Stillington to go top of division one in IT Sports York and District Mixed Doubles League.

Rob Jones and Belinda Turnbull led the way, dropping only three games out of 36 in their three victories as Poppleton cruised home 82-36.

John Burdett and Barbara Watson came closest to winning for Stillington as they held Gavin Harris and Hayley Smith to a 6-6 draw.

Fulford beat their second team 68-40, although this contest would have had a much closer scoreline but for Patrick Atkinson and Dom Morrissey managing only five games for Fulford II. The other six rubbers all ended 6-6 or 7-5.

Two unbeaten teams, Dunnington and York clashed at Dunnington with York edging home five of the nine rubbers finishing 6-6. York, last year's champions and Poppleton are now the only unbeaten teams.

Rowntree Park lost their unbeaten record in division two going down 67-41 at home to Poppleton II, whose strength in depth proved decisive.

Another match between unbeaten teams saw Wigginton beat York III, while York II moved up the table with a comfortable win over Civil Service II. Dunnington II gained their first success at the expense of Sherburn-in-Elmet, third pair Kevin Todd and Alex Bolam leading the way with 21 games.

Sutton-on-Derwent had a successful week in division three beating previously unbeaten Castlegarth 66-42 and Riccall 61-47, while Bishopthorpe had their first win of the season at the expense of Poppleton.

Castlegarth just got the better of Tollerton, but have lost their lead at the top, Bubwith taking over thanks to a 71-37 win over Bishopthorpe.

Wheldrake spoiled Selby's 100 per cent division four record with a 62-46 success, Mark Bland and Helen Roe being top scorers with 27. Selby bounced back with a win over Appleton Roebuck.

Wilberfoss gained their first win, beating Appleton Roebuck, but then lost to Wigginton for whom Simon Ewing and Ann Mead won two of their three rubbers.

Fulford and Cliffe, two leading teams in division five met at Fulford where Cliffe lost their 100 per cent record 79-29. Fulford won all nine rubbers. Sutton-on-Derwent edged a 55-53 victory at New Earswick and then had another close win over Wistow.

Poppleton IV fought hard before surrendering their division six 100 per cent record at Wigginton III, the key being Les Almond and Lesley Ford's 11-1 win over Poppleton's third pair. Poppleton returned to winning ways 57-51 over Heworth.

Strensall had their first win in division seven beating Sutton-on-Derwent, Greg Reid and Sue Raine gathering 28 games. Civil Service III kept their lead with a 64-44 victory over Rufforth, who were suffering their first defeat.

In division eight, Bubwith maintained their 100 per cent record beating Riccall III. York V stay top following their win over Dunnington at Clifton Park. Peter Witherwick and Rosemary Littlefair winning 25 games for York.

Cawood had their first victory in division nine and Tollerton also got off the mark by edging to a 56-52 home success over Appleton Roebuck. Civil Service went down for the first time, Wigginton having a 68-40 win at Boroughbridge Road.

Nestl retained their unbeaten record in division ten, John Bankah and Elizabeth Baggley winning 30 games, while Strensall were also showing a 100 per cent points total after going to Appleton Roebuck and winning 60-48, only to then lose 75-33 at Escrick who stay top.
