THE seasonal debut of Evening Press - the racehorse of the people of York - has been delayed for a week.
Press, trained and owned by Norton-based Tim Etherington and leased to the readers of the York Evening Press, had been pencilled in for a nine-furlong trip at Carlisle today.
However, with Press needing fast ground, the heavy rain over the weekend always meant her running at Carlisle was only really an outside possibility.
Etherington is now looking towards meets at either Redcar on Tuesday June 4 or at Beverley the following day.
At Redcar, Press has been lined up for a mile-and-three-quarter 0-60 maiden handicap, while the evening meeting at Beverley has the filly provisionally entered for a mile-and-a-half 0-60 handicap.
Which of the two races Press will run in will be decided by where the better ground is, but if neither suit her then her reappearance could be delayed.
