A YORK woman is hoping to go on the pull in South Africa.

But Karen O'Brien from Carr Lane, Acomb, needs to raise more than £2,000 before she can take part in the Tug Of War World Championships in Pretoria this month.

The 32-year-old is one of eight women hoping to represent the United Kingdom after their team, the Kilroe Ladies Tug Of War Club, won the UK National Championships.

But Karen said she desperately needs sponsorship to enable her to fulfil her dream.

She said: "To be able to compete in such a prestigious event is a great personal achievement for me as this is something that I have fought long and hard for especially over the last three months.

"Our weekly schedule has revolved around rigorous training, both physical and mental, and also strict dieting in order to maintain our match weight."

The team, which is in the 520 kilos weight class, is taking part in the World Championships from September 22.

Karen needs to raise approximately £600 for her flights and insurance, £1,500 for her accommodation and £100 for her kit.

If anyone can help they should phone her on 07974 237852 or email KoBrien_1@hotmail.com
