PUNK godfathers Green Day have brought their back catalogue up to date with Shenanigans.
The Californian three-piece have sold more than 25 million albums and dodged enough spit to fill a swimming pool. This latest release is a collection of B-sides, rarities, soundtrack songs and cover versions which is a must for die-hard fans. For everyone else, a wiser buy would be Green Day's recent International Superhits compilation. At a feisty 33 minutes, Shenanigans does have its moments.
With song titles such as Suffocate, Scumbag and Rotting, little is left to the imagination. But then that's the point. Espionage - featured on the second Austin Powers soundtrack - is an amusing instrumental punk take on the spy music genre. Other highlights include a cover of The Kinks' Tired Of Waiting For You and the classic punk riffage on Desensitized. Unsurprisingly, nothing comes close to Green Day's punk anthem, Basket Case.
