THE formula for most remix albums is painfully similar: a few knobs twiddled here, a couple of dancey bits thrown in there and hey presto! A million-selling album making even more money.

Nu-metal sensations Linkin Park clearly had different ideas. Reanimation is a reinterpretation of 20 of their songs, taken mostly from Grammy-award winning album Hybrid Theory. It will make pots of cash but for reasons of quality. Borrowing more than 20 of their friends from the world of rock, electronica and hip hop, almost every track is a genuinely well thought-out reworking.

Even some of their biggest hits are improved. Crawling starts with haunting violins followed by an emotional duet between lead singer Chester Bennington and Staind's Aaron Lewis, while Motion Man turns it on for In The End. Many of the songs are laced with clever hip hop asides and contain every conceivable type of bleep, scratch and vocal distortion known to nu-metal man. Park's MC Mike Shinoda shines throughout with his word wizadry. The remix standard has been set.
