OLIVER KNIGHT is best known as collaborator with his mother Lal Waterson on her critically acclaimed albums Once In A Blue Moon and A Bed Of Roses.
Mysterious Day, his first solo recording, continues the family tradition of creative and original English composition that owes much to the folk tradition, but is not beholden to it. Ten of the album's 12 songs are original compositions of considerable beauty and distinction. From the filmic Fylde to the up-tempo title track, and the shimmering South Seas, a stellar cast of singers, including Christine Collister, Eliza Carthy, John Tams and his sister Maria Gillhooley, accompanies Oliver. The versatile Oliver plays mandolin, acoustic, electric and bass guitars as well as taking producing and recording credits.
Knight has also been busy mixing the latest studio offering by occasional folk super group Blue Murder. No One Stands Alone is a great celebration of harmony singing by some of Britain's truly great traditional performers: Norma and her brother Mike Waterson; Martin and daughter Eliza Carthy; Barry Coope, Jim Boyes and Lester Simpson. As well as the title track, others songs include Gown Of Green, Blue Mountain, Standing On The Promises Of God and the comical Rubber Band.
