A stunning second half performance by fourth division side Burnholme SC provided the shock of the day in the first round of the John Smiths Bitter Cup, when they came from a goal down to defeat first division Acomb WMC 4-1.

Wayne Carter gave Acomb a first half lead but goals from Massey (2), Bickerdyke and man of the match Newbold saw Burnholme through.

Ainsty FC also went down to lower league opposition when they lost 3-1 at second division Thorpe whose scorers were Crowther, Fowler and Clamp.
