There is a first prize of £50 up for grabs in a charity snooker event being held in York later this month.

Entries are being accepted now for the Woodlands Snooker Championship to be played at Cueball Snooker Club, James Street Industrial Park, on Sunday, September 15. The event is limited to 20 players, who will play on a round-robin basis and each player will receive a handicap. All players are guaranteed eight frames. The event starts at 10am. Entry costs £10 (payable by cheque, made out to Cueball Snooker Club, with the entry form).

Heworth Minibuses and the Cueball Club are putting up prize money of £50 to the winner, £30 to the runner-up and a third prize of £20.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Multiple Sclerosis Society's Woodlands Respite Care Centre, at Thief Lane, Hull Road.
