THE beauty of the written word is being admired by visitors to Haxby library, where an exhibition of calligraphy has been mounted.
Members of York Scribes, a group of calligraphers, each contributed a small square of calligraphy to the project.
The squares were then made into a quilt which is on display at the library.
The work was completed under the guidance of Margaret Beech, an internationally-known calligrapher, who lives at Haxby.
Betty Grave, chairwoman of York Scribes, and herself a teacher of calligraphy, said: "We hope that when people see how wonderful the quilt looks they will be encouraged to consider beginning to learn how to practice this ancient skill themselves."
