SAILORS from HMS York visited a York special school to meet the children and present a cheque for £500.
Galtres School, which caters for older children with severe or multiple learning difficulties, is the sponsored charity of the Type 42 destroyer.
The cheque, the result of fundraising by the ship's company, is set to be used for specialist IT equipment. The sailors have in the past helped the school buy a hydrotherapy pool and lighting equipment for a relaxation room.
The visit involved Commander Richard Powell, two other officers and nine sailors, who also visited Brigadier David Shaw at Imphal Barracks, RAF Linton on Ouse, the Merchant Adventurers Hall, the Lord Mayor of York and John Smiths Brewery at Tadcaster.
